Food is too good to waste
GREAT Sorts in Western Australia are joining Great Unwasters across the country to turn food waste around. People from all over Australia are finding it easy to reduce food waste by adopting these seven simple habits.
1. Pack it. Stack it. Chill it
Store food smartly in clear containers, label leftovers, and keep your fridge, freezer and pantry organised. It’s the easiest way to keep food fresh and waste-free. Learn more about food storage here: Pack it. Stack it. Chill it.
2. Flexi meal plan
Plan meals with room to move. Leave space for unexpected dinners out or takeaway nights in so nothing goes to waste. Learn more about flexible meal planning here: Flexi meal plan
3. Join the leftovers revolution
Last night’s curry or pasta tastes even better today! Pack leftovers for lunch and plan a weekly leftovers night for a no-fuss dinner. More about loving your leftovers here: Join the leftovers revolution
4. First in, first out
Before grabbing that brand-new bag of salad, remember the opened one patiently waiting its turn. Use older food first and rotate groceries so nothing gets forgotten. Learn more about FIFO: First in, first out
5. Stick to your list
Shop with a plan and only grab what you really need. Writing a list and sticking to it keeps your kitchen stocked just right. Learn more about shopping lists here: Stick to your list
6. Cook just right
That feeling when you cook the perfect amount – clean plates, full stomachs, no leftovers. A quick check on who’s eating and how hungry they are helps you cook just right. Learn more about cooking the right amount here: Cook just right
7. Save room for seconds
Start with smaller servings – you can always go back for more. Keeping extra food in the pan makes it easy to pack leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch. Learn more about serving sizes here: Save Room for Seconds
